The legal cases follow one another for Saïd Bouteflika, the brother of the late ousted president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika. But this time, Saïd Bouteflika the case was entrusted to the anti-terrorist pole of the court of Sidi M’Hamed in Algiers. Indeed, the latter was charged and placed under arrest warrant for “terrorist financing” and “hidden election campaign financing”. Saïd Bouteflika’s defense appealed against this decision before the indictment chamber, but it was rejected.
Saïd Bouteflika is this time prosecuted for the “financing” of the Amel TV channel, belonging to the journalist and former DRS officer Aboud Hichem, installed in France and brought for less than a year, by the Algerian authorities, on the list of “terrorist persons and organizations” because of his alleged links with the Rachad movement, also considered to be “a terrorist organization”. Saïd Bouteflika, brother of the late deposed President, was the subject of a committal order, ordered by the investigating magistrate of the criminal center at the court of Sidi M’hamed, in Algiers. Two businessmen, Ahmed Mazouz, manager and owner of the GM Trade group, who had been sentenced to 4 years in prison, and Mahieddine Tahkout, boss of the Cima-Motors group, sentenced to 14 years in prison, are also implicated.
According to the French-language daily El Watan, an investigation would have been carried out by the investigating magistrate, based on funds that would have been paid by Saïd Bouteflika to Aboud Hichem to finance the television channel Amel TV, of which he is the owner and CEO, which has not existed for more than two years and the facts for which he was charged date back to the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, more than two years. This channel was to be used as a media support for the presidential election campaign of the late ousted president, from April 2019, for a 5th term.
Saïd Bouteflika in court this May, for two other cases
Saïd Bouteflika should appear before the judge on May 23. Indeed, the Economic and Financial Criminal Division of the Court of Sidi M’hamed in Algiers has scheduled a new trial for Saïd Bouteflika, brother and adviser to the former President of the Republic, the late Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and Ali Haddad, a man and former boss of the Forum des chefs d’entreprises (FCE), for their involvement in the case relating to the secret financing of the electoral campaign for the 5ᵉ mandate, money laundering and concealment of assets resulting from criminal offenses and of corruption.
The facts of this case, dating back to 2019, concern the financing of the television channel “El Istimraria” which was to be devoted to supporting the electoral campaign for the 5th term of the late ousted president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika. There is also talk of the illegal importation of audiovisual broadcasting material for the creation of this propaganda channel which was to be launched.
Saïd Bouteflika, should also be judged on appeal, on May 15, in the case also involving Tayeb Louh, the former Minister of Justice of the Bouteflika era, after the appeal lodged by the representative of the public prosecutor and by the defence, the case returned to be retried a second time by the criminal chamber, near the court of Algiers. This case, for which Saïd Bouteflika was sentenced to 2 years in prison, concerned the latter’s intervention in the cancellation of the international arrest warrants issued in 2013 against Chakib Khelil, former Minister of Energy , his wife and two children
