Algeria – Morocco: Algiers condemns “targeted assassinations against civilians”

New rise in tensions between Algiers and Rabat. The department of Ramtane Lamamra has just condemned “targeted assassinations of civilians” by Morocco.

In a statement made public this Tuesday, April 12 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Algeria condemned “strongly the targeted assassinations committed by means of sophisticated weapons of war by Morocco, outside its internationally recognized borders, against innocent civilians”.

“These belligerent practices are similar to repetitive acts of State terrorism and take on the characteristics of extrajudicial executions liable to prosecution before the competent bodies of the United Nations system”, denounced Algeria.

“This relentlessness against civilians through intentional and premeditated killings constitutes a serious systemic violation of international humanitarian law which must be vigorously denounced and resolutely deterred. This headlong rush by the Moroccan occupying power constitutes a persistent challenge to international legality and exposes the region to particularly dangerous developments,” added the same source.

Algeria wants a reaction from the UN

In the same press release, Algeria indirectly demanded a firm reaction from the United Nations Security Council.

“The adventurism of the expansionist aims of the Kingdom of Morocco must challenge the Security Council of the United Nations as well as the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General, Staffan De Mistura, whose mission and appeasement efforts are seriously jeopardized by these serious and repeated breaches of security in the occupied Sahrawi territories and their immediate vicinity with serious risks of potentially perilous regional drifts”, launched the same source.

It should be noted that the condemnation of Algeria comes the day after the attack by the Moroccan army on a truck convoy in northern Mauritania. Among these drivers, an Algerian was injured, according to the Menadefense site.
