The Algerian coach, Djamel Belmadi, has unveiled his list of players summoned for the first two days of the qualifying phase of CAN 2023. A list which included 25 players including 7 newcomers. The revolution announced by Belmadi takes shape on paper, characterized by new blood on all lines of the field.
Lacking real competition since 2010, the position of goalkeeper should know the beginnings of a new era. The summons of the SCO d’Angers goalkeeper, Anthony Mandréa, should redistribute the cards in this key position for the Algerian selection. The 25-year-old goalkeeper distinguished himself in the second part of the season with his club, thus winning the place of the holder in the cages of the western French club.
The right flank of the Algerian defense has a new candidate for the next stage. Akim Zedadka, right side of Clermont Foot 63, resident club of the French Ligue 1, celebrates his first selection with the Greens. The 26-year-old will relaunch competition in this position following Youcef Atal’s multiple injuries. The latter being not very regular because of the many physical deficiencies.
The only place on the left flank of the Fennecs defense will be worth a lot. The left side of Lusitanian club Boavista FC, Yacine Hamache, will have the heavy task of getting ahead of the experienced, Ramy Bensebaini, and the revelation of the last game of the Greens, Ahmed Touba. A variety in the profiles which would suggest the scheme concocted by Djamel Belmadi.
New blood is injected into the midfield of the Algerian team. The player of KV Courtrai in Belgium, Abdelkahar Kadri, is the novelty of coach Belmadi in this sector of play. The player trained in Paradou will join the first team of Algeria after an honorable season for a young player.
New players attacking, the ultimate test?
Orphaned during the last African Cup, the line of attack of the Algerian team is being redrawn. The Algerian coach has opted for different profiles to vary his schemes for the next deadlines.
After a little scare about his selection, Bilal Omrani will indeed be present for the next training camp of the Algerian team. The 28-year-old physical player plays in Romania with the CFR Cluj club. He has a ratio of 5 goals and 9 assists in 32 games for this season.
The Algerian coach has made up for the absence of captain Riyad Mahrez for the next Fennecs camp. The versatility of the Algerian wingers should allow the national coach to have more ideas as to the animation in this position. OGC Nice winger Bilal Brahimi is the new player selected for this role. The native of Paris has established himself in the rotation of the club of the Côte d’Azur for the exercise which has just ended by participating in 11 Ligue 1 matches.
Eventually, Belmadi brought in Entente de Sétif striker Riyad Benayad. The Setifian player distinguished himself during the African Champions League by scoring 4 goals. The workforce of the Algerian team will obviously experience a period of transition following the elimination of the Greens from the race for the World Cup. Rejuvenation to erase the failures of the first part of 2022.
