At the end of the contract with SSC Naples: Ghoulam should hang up

Faouzi Ghoulam won’t be eligible for a new contract with SSC Napoli and his current deal will expire next June. Victim of repeated injuries, which have struggled to regain his best level, the Algerian left side could end his career at the end of the current season.

After eight seasons at SSC Naples, Faouzi Ghoulam will leave the club at the end of the current season. Indeed, the management of the club has decided not to renew his contract which will expire next June. If such a decision was taken, it is simply because of the terrible regression of the player’s level, due to repeated injuries.

The Neapolitan management has even started looking for the player who will make up for Ghoulam’s departure at the end of the season. They targeted a few left-backs, including the Scotsman from FC Bologna Aaron Hickey and the Uruguayan from Getafe Olivera.

“SSC Napoli intends to officially say goodbye to Ghoulam at the end of the season. The club is looking for a left-back for next season. The closest players to the Neapolitan club in recent weeks are FC Bologna’s Aaron Hickey and Getafe’s Mathias Olivera. The latter is closer to wearing the blue jersey, given that Bologna asked for 25 million euros to sell Hickey”, reported the Italian media Napolicalcio.

End of career for the player?

Considered one of the best left-backs in Europe a few years ago, Faouzi Ghoulam has seen his momentum slowed down in the last four seasons due to the nasty repeated injuries he has suffered. With only 58 official appearances, he could not find his best level.

Annoyed by the curse of injuries, and at 31, the left side in question could make an important decision next July, that of ending his career. “Ghoulam could make an important decision at the end of the season. He could quit football. The physical problems in recent years have never been completely recovered by the Algerian footballer, ”indicated the Italian media.

And added: “If he had to make this decision, it would be very sad news for the whole football world. The history of this footballer’s career is a sign that bad luck can continue to strike the same young player in perverse and cyclical ways”.

Trained at AS Saint-Etienne, before joining SSC Naples in 2014, Faouzi Ghoulam joined the Algerian national team in 2013, with which he has 37 caps and 5 goals.
