Belmadi – Delort: has the time for reconciliation finally come?

Author of a very good season with OGC Nice, Andy Delort finished the season fifth top scorer in the Uber Eats Ligue 1 league, with 18 goals on the clock. Faced with the poor form of Islam Slimani and Baghdad Bounedjah, his return to the national team becomes a necessity, but the last word goes to Djamel Belmadi.

Andy Delort’s statistics largely plead in his favor, in a championship of a good level, even ahead of certain stars, among others Neymar, Dimitri Payet or Lionel Messi. A new experience that gives another dimension to the attacker in question.

As everyone knows, Djamel Belmadi has decided to dismiss Delort last September, when the latter preferred to stay at his new club OGC Nice instead of joining the national team camp for purely sporting reasons. A case that had caused a lot of ink and saliva to flow. But faced with the poor form ofIslam Slimani and Baghdad Bounedjah, his return to the Greens now becomes a necessity. It remains to be seen now whether Djamel Belmadi has definitively closed the door on the return of the Niçois or will he take him out of the “blacklist” from the next stage of the national selection.

Andy Delort is not the only international player who has been left out of his country’s national team. Some world stars have experienced the same scenario, but they ended up finding the selection thanks to their performances within their teams.

Deschamps Benzema

The conflict between a national coach and his player, known by all football lovers, is the one that opposed Didier Descamps to Karim Benzema. Indeed, the Real Madrid striker was excluded from the France team for six years, due to the affair with Mathieu Valbuena which had caused a lot of ink to flow at the time. When everyone thought the selection was over for Real’s top scorer, he found it through the biggest of doors.

It was from Euro 2020 that Descamps ended up giving in to pressure, thus putting the interest of the French selection above all. Benzema returns and will contribute, thereafter, to the success of the selection of his country.

Andersson-Ibrahimovic

The other case that can be cited is that between the Swedish coach Janne Andersson and his player Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The latter, known for his arrogance, had verbally clashed with his coach, to the point of calling him “racist”. Banned for five years, “Ibra” ended up finding, too, the Swedish selection.

The two men had decided to open a new page and put their clash aside, always for the interest of the selection.

Halilhodzic-Mazraoui

Known for his stubbornness, Moroccan coach Vahid Halilhodzic released Ajax Amsterdam player Noussair Mazraoui from the “Blacklist”. Despite the war of declarations that broke out between the two men, which prompted the player to announce his international retirement, everything returned to normal a few weeks ago.

Halihodzic and Mazraoui reconciled in Amsterdam. The player, unless there is a bad surprise, will be on the list of players selected for the next World Cup in Qatar.
