Eid al-Adha 2022: warnings from the Ministry of Health

Only a few days separate us from the celebration of Eid al-Adha for the year 2022. On the sidelines of the preparations, the Ministry of Health recalled the respect of certain measures during the performance of the ritual of sacrifice. And warned of the risks of hydatid cyst.

With the approach of the celebration of Eid al-Adha; the department of Minister Abderrahmane Benbouzid returned to the preventive measures that must be taken by citizens performing the ritual of sacrifice.

In its press release made public this Sunday; the Ministry of Health recalled the importance of veterinary control of sacrificed sheep. In the absence of control; the department of Benbouzid recommends the examination of offal (liver and lungs) as well as the other viscera of the sacrificed animal. And this, with precaution to look for possible cysts or vesicles.

In the case where the giblets of the animal present cysts and water balls; the Ministry of Health recommends boiling or burning them. Or to bury them deep underground more than 50 cm. To prevent stray dogs from digging them up.

In the same sense; the press release from the Benbouzid department warned against the danger of abandoning offal and other viscera bearing water balls in nature; to dispose of them with other household waste; Or give them to dogs.

Eid al-Adha 2022: what is a hydatid cyst?

According to the press release from the Ministry of Health; hydatid cyst or hydatidosis is a parasitic, contagious disease, characterized by the development in humans, most often in the liver or lung, of the larval form of a worm called Taenia or Echinococcus granulosus.

In Algeria, the hydatid cyst is endemic and presents a public health problem; informed the department of Minister Benbouzid. Explaining that it is an asymptomatic disease at its onset; often diagnosed at the stage of complications, that is, with the appearance of cysts in the organs. This requires complex surgery.

The department of Benbouzid also calls for avoiding the blowing of the sacrifice by the mouth during the slaughter. And also advocates the installation of the sacrifice in a place far from the sun, drafts and children.

Otherwise ; the Ministry of Health recalls the importance of cleaning and disinfecting the places of sale and slaughter. And this, using bleach 12 diluted to 1/10 (01 dose of bleach 12 for 09 doses of water). But also, to collect waste in waterproof bags; by depositing them in the places dedicated to this purpose.
