The match between ES Ain-Taya and ES Hamiz, as part of the 25th day of the honor championship, ended with a river score of 19 goals to nil. The score was so heavy that it gave rise to strong suspicions of a combined match. The Algiers Wilaya Football League (LWFA) did not sit idly by as it imposed heavy penalties on the two clubs after having in its possession evidence of a match-fixing.
Obviously, the corruption in Algerian football extends to the lower divisions of the championship. Last weekend, ES Hamiza won with an extraordinary score of 19 goals to nil against ES Ain-Taya at the latter’s stadium, as part of the 25th day of the honor championship ( D6). The score was so heavy that it gave rise to strong suspicions of a combined match.
After an investigation by the football league of the Wilaya of Algiers, which did not sit idly by in the face of this scandal, it turned out that the match between the two teams was well and truly arranged. ES Ain-Taya allowed their hosts ES Hamiz to score as many goals, in order to favor them for accession.
Heavy sanctions against the two clubs
Having in its possession evidence of a match-arrangement, the disciplinary committee of the LWF of Algiers pronounced sanctions this afternoon. The least we can say is that it struck with an iron fist since the two clubs in question received heavy penalties.
Indeed, it has decided to suspend the two clubs of ESAT and ESH for the current season and demote them to the lower division. They were also penalized six points apiece on the course of the upcoming championship. The two teams were also fined 200,000DA (20 million centimes). Sanctions taken in view of the seriousness of the professional shortcomings of the leaders of the clubs mentioned and, in strict application of the regulations of the amateur football championships in force.
This is not all since the commission of the LWF of Algiers has decided to transmit the file to the integrity department of the Algerian football federation in order to identify those responsible for this arrangement. We would like to see this kind of sanctions imposed on Ligue 1 clubs suspected of fixing their matches, especially at the end of the championship.
