On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Algeria; President Abdelmadjid Tebboune decreed a presidential pardon for several categories of prisoners.
The announcement was made this Monday, July 4, the eve of the anniversary of independence, through a press release made public by the presidency of the republic.
Indeed, the presidential pardon, decreed by President Tebboune, concerns a total of more than 15,000 detainees, from five categories of prisoners.
What are the 5 categories concerned?
The first category concerns detainees definitively sentenced in cases of fraud and resale of stolen objects and use of social networks for subversive purposes. Prisoners under the age of 65 will benefit from an 18-month sentence reduction. As for prisoners over the age of 65, they will benefit from a reduction in sentence of 2 years (24 months).
The second category concerns prisoners who have been definitively sentenced to death/life. The latter will see their sentences drop to 20 years in prison. Note that this grace does not apply to murderers.
The third category concerns prisoners with serious illnesses (cancer and kidney failure). These detainees, sentenced definitively, will benefit from a remission of sentence of two years (24 months).
With regard to the fourth category, it concerns prisoners who have been definitively sentenced and who have passed the BEM and BAC exams, as well as vocational training diplomas. The latter will benefit from a remission of sentence of 2 years, or 24 months.
Concerning the fifth category, it concerns certain detainees who have been sentenced definitively or not in cases of crowding and related acts.
