Slimani-Sporting Portugal: Imminent termination of contract?

Announced leaving, Islam Slimani could terminate his contract with Sporting Portugal in the hours to come. Currently in France, he met his agent to discuss his future.

Islam Slimani is having a hard time with his situation at Sporting Portugal. After verbally clashing with his coach Ruben Amorim a few weeks ago, the latter ended up dismissing him from the match against Tandella. The relationship between them has completely deteriorated in recent weeks after the manager blamed his player for his declining form due to fasting during the month of Ramadan. Suddenly, he had him removed from his plans since he did not retain him for the last two games. Worse still, the Algerian striker has not trained with his teammates for several days, contenting himself with solo work on the sidelines of the group.

The least we can say is that the current no longer passes between the player and the coach. A difficult situation which could push the top scorer of the Algerian national team towards the exit door at the end of the current season, by opting for another club to bounce back.

And yet, he made a successful debut with Sporting Portugal, which he joined during the last winter transfer window from Olympique Lyonnais with the ambition of relaunching his career. By establishing himself as a starter, he played nine games, where he was able to score four goals and deliver an assist.

Slimani in Paris to meet his agent

Taking advantage of the two days off granted by coach Ruben Amorim to the players, Islam Slimani had permission from his club to fly to Paris. According to the specialized Portuguese newspaper “A Bola”, the Algerian international striker has been in the French capital since yesterday to “settle some personal business”.

According to the same newspaper but also some Portuguese media, “Super Slim” was to meet his agent in Paris to discuss his future. While his departure is imminent, the player would have asked his agent to start looking for a club that he will join from the next summer transfer window.

Slimani will have to return to Lisbon today to rejoin his club Sporting Portugal, but it remains very possible for the divorce between the two parties to be finalized in the days to come. In short, his departure is now a matter of time, it remains to be seen where he will bounce back next season, he who would prefer to stay in Europe rather than try a new experience in an Arab championship.
