Sparkling Delort: Will Belmadi get him off the Blacklist?

Andy Delort sends another strong signal to national coach Djamel Belmadi. Having finished the Ligue 1 Uber Eats championship among the top scorers, the Franco-Algerian striker panics the statistics. Faced with the poor form of Islam Slimani and Baghdad Bounedjah, his return is now becoming a necessity in anticipation of the first two days of the CAN-2023 qualifiers, respectively against Uganda and Tanzania.

Andy Delort scored a hat-trick in seven minutes flat during the meeting the night before last between OGC Nice at the Stade de Reims, in a match that ended in victory in favor of the Niçois (3-5 ). The Algerian international offers victory to his team, synonymous with participation for the UEFA Conference League. He will have beaten Reims almost alone.

Having allowed OGC Nice to finish Ligue 1 Uber Eats on a high note, Andy Delort finished the league as the fifth top scorer, with 18 goals. Impressive statistics for a striker who plays in a championship of a good level, even ahead of certain stars, among others Neymar, Dimitri Payet or Lionel Messi. A new experience that gave another dimension to the attacker in question.

Should it be taken out of the “Balckliste”?

As everyone knows, Djamel Belmadi decided to dismiss Andy Delort last September, when the latter preferred to stay at his new club OGC Nice instead of joining the national team camp for purely sports. A case that had flowed a lot of ink and saliva.

During his last media outing on the RMC radio program “Rothen s’ignite”, the national coach said of Delort: “He is no longer selectable. Maybe in a year, maybe with someone else, I don’t know. Things are obvious to me anyway. He even referred to the player as a “little bride”, a way in which he meant that the divorce would already be consummated.

But faced with the poor form of Islam Slimani and Baghdad, who lack playing time, the return of Andy Delort is now becoming a necessity. Indeed, the statistics of the latter plead largely in his favor and most Algerian supporters are unanimous in saying that it is time to get him out of the “Blacklist” for the interest of the national team which is preparing to to play important matches next June, especially when we know that apart from Delort, there is no top striker capable, it must be said, of replacing Slimani and Bounedjah, whether in the league national or abroad.

Until we go to press, Djamel Belmadi has not yet revealed the list of players selected for the next training camp in anticipation of the first two days of the CAN-2023 qualifiers, respectively against Uganda and Tanzania. Some names have filtered, of course, but it remains to be seen whether the national coach is preparing surprises, particularly with regard to the return of Andy Delort.
