The towel is burning between Algerian striker Islam Slimani and the coach of his Portuguese club Ruben Amorim. Indeed, the Sporting CP coach did not retain Fennec from the national team during the match which pitted his club against Tondela in the league, then against FC Porto in the Taça de Portugal, justifying this separation by the lack of energy and spirit in Slimani during training sessions.
Since Algeria’s dramatic defeat against Cameroon in Blida and its elimination from the 2022 World Cup, Algerian international Islam Slimani has been going through hard times at his Portuguese club, Sporting CP, in particular because of the tensions that continue to grow with his coach Ruben Amorim.
Indeed, the Sporting CP coach has once again removed the name of Islam Slimani from the list of players selected to face FC Porto in the Taça de Portugal. To justify his attitude, Ruben Amorim suggested that the Algerian striker did not give his all during training sessions, particularly with the fasting of the holy month of Ramadan.
“Those who are the most diligent in training are called up. I can take the risk of losing the Cup, but I will never change my methods. Workouts mean a lot to me,” explained the Sporting CP coach.
This Friday, Islam Slimani came out of his silence and spoke out, through a story on his Instagram account, to respond to his coach who put him aside. In his message, the Algerian striker claimed that fasting does not prevent him from training with dedication for his club.“Without eating or drinking, I have always trained with dedication for my club. And no one can take that away from me”we read on the publication of the talented striker of the Greens.
Liga Portugal bwin: Slimani voted player of the month for March
At almost 34 years old, and after leaving Olympique Lyonnais, Islam Slimani continues to distinguish himself thanks to his spectacular and exceptional performance on the pitch. Last March, the legendary striker of the Greens was voted the best player of the month in the league by the coaches of the Liga Portugal bwin.
A well-deserved prize to reward Slimani’s efforts, but above all to console him after the bitter defeat suffered by the national team in Blida in the context of the return match against Cameroon, a hard defeat, experienced as a bereavement and which had negative repercussions on the state of mind of Islam Slimani who had behaved inappropriately with his trainer Ruben Amorim during collective training.
