It is done. Djamel Benlamri joins a new club. He returns to the Saudi league, opting for Al-Khaleej Club. The international defender can now claim to return to selection from the next training camp in September.
Unemployed for more than two months, Djamel Benlamri finally finds a base. Indeed, central defender of the Algerian national team has just opted for the Saudi club Al Khaleej club. The latter announced the news via his official page on Twitter. A publication on which he wrote: “Âasslama, Âach men chafek”.
As for the player, he says he is very happy to finally find a boarding club. “I just signed my new contract at AL Khaleedj Club. I am very happy to sign a new contract and to return to the country that I loved so much. Thank you to the Al Khaleej club for its professionalism and trust”. He will say on his official Instagram account.
Unemployment is now a thing of the past for the child of El-Harrach. While waiting to make his debut with his new team on the occasion of the start of the official competition, he can claim to return to the selection. It would be, perhaps, from the next internship in September.
Certainly, several young defenders are gaining momentum, among others Mohamed-Amine Tougai and Ahmed Touba, but the fact remains that Djamel Benlamri is a safe bet. His great experience could serve well for the national team during the next important deadlines.
It should be recalled that Benlamri will live his second professional experience in Saudi Arabia in his career. He has already played at Al-Shabab for four seasons, between 2016 and 2020.
Has he found a compromise with Al-Shabab?
Fifa has ordered Benlamri to pay his former Saudi club Al-Shabab a colossal sum of €905,000. The verdict fell a few days ago following the Saudis’ complaint to the international body. The latter had accused the player of terminating the contract unilaterally before joining O Lyon.
But this case would be closed. Indeed, the defender in question would have found a compromise with the leaders of Al-Shabab. “Thank you to the leadership of Al Shabab and its president Abu Al-Walid for everything”. He said, in a post on his official Instagram account.
Djamel Benlamri will therefore have to stay focused with his new team. He will be called upon to chain matches from the start of the season to hope to regain his place in the selection. But this obviously requires good off-season preparation.
