Verdict of the Algeria-Cameroon appeal: the Ministry of Sports reacts

While the Algerian football federation was dismissed by Fifa in the case of the Algeria-Cameroon match, the Minister of Youth and Sports Abderrezak Sebgag affirms that the first instance of national football will not let go. He tells her that it is her absolute right to go far in this case, by seizing all the competent authorities.

After having lodged an appeal with Fifa the day after the return match of the Algeria-Cameroon play-offs, played on March 29 at the Mustapha Tchaker stadium in Blida, to denounce the scandalous arbitration of the Gambian Bakary Gassama, the Algerian football federation also brought complaint to the Fifa arbitration commission, chaired by the famous former Italian referee Pierluigi Collina for the same reason. But it received an unfavorable response from the international body.

Minister of Youth and Sports Abderrezak Sebgag reacts to the decision of Fifa which dismissed the FAF. He claims that the latter will go far in the case in question, in accordance with the statutes of Fifa.

“We intend to go far in this case”

Indeed, and in a statement granted to the media this afternoon, the Minister of Youth and Sports will say: “The Algerian football federation has received correspondence from Fifa which informed it of its decision regarding of the complaint lodged concerning the Algeria-Cameroon match. We intend to go far in this case because it is our most absolute right to seize all the competent authorities, in accordance with the statutes of Fifa”.

Abderrezak Sebgag also commented on the latest disappointment of the national team, which was eliminated from the next World Cup in Qatar after losing the second leg of the play-offs against Cameroon “If we are eliminated from the next World Cup, it is because of several factors which were unfavorable to the Algerian national team. There are internal and other external factors that are beyond us,” the minister said, without giving further details.

It remains to be seen now what will be the next procedure for the FAF, when we know that it will not be able to appeal to the Lausanne CAS because it is a decision of the arbitration committee and only the decisions taken by the Disciplinary Committee and the Appeals Committee may be appealed to the Swiss structure, in accordance with Article 48 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
